Ok, so you have an iPhone 4 and you have T-Mobile, and they are the only ones so far without an iPhone in their arsenal, but Don’t fret, because we here at DamnPC will make sure that you aren’t left in the dark. If you have an iPhone 4 that is running iOS 4, chances are you want to upgrade to the official iOS 5 firmware. The question I am sure you are asking yourself right now, however, is can I upgrade to the iOS 5 firmware and still unlock my iPhone? The answer is yes but whats needed if your base-band is 01.59 – 02.10, 03.10.1 – 04.10.1 is an Gevey SIM, but you cannot just simply update to the stock iOS 5 firmware. You are required to make a custom iOS 5 firmware using a JailBreaking program such as Redsn0w or Sn0ebreeze.
So, How Do I exactly Unlock My iPhone On The iOS 5 Firmware you ask?
Its Pretty Simple but First and foremost. If you a noob to the unlocking scene you are probably wondering how one would go about unlocking their iPhone on the iOS 5 firmware or unlocking your iPhone period; The answer is simple. You can either use a software unlock called UltraSn0w by the iPhone Dev-Team or a hardware based unlock called Gevey SIM card by Apple n Berry. The difference between a UltraSn0w and the Gevey SIM card, however, is that UltraSn0w only supports a limited number of older base-bands while the Gevey SIM card supports a limited number of newer base-bands.
Gevey SIM: The Gevey SIM card works with the following iPhone base-bands:
01.59 – 02.10
03.10.1 – 04.10.1/ ( 4.11.08) ”Gevey Sim2″
Software Program: UtraSn0w supports the following iPhone 3GS/iPhone 4 base-bands:
4.26.08
05.11.07
05.12.01
05.13.04
06.15.00 ( iPad Base-band)
01.59.00
If you are looking to unlock your iPhone on the iOS 5 firmware you will need to see which method of unlocking will work with the baseband currently running on your iPhone.
What is a Gevey Sim You May Ask?
For those of you who Don’t know, Gevey Sim has the ability to unlock an iPhone 4 on base band 2.10.04 , 3.10.01 and 04.10.01 04.11.08 running iOS 4.x.x and now iOS 5
How Do I unlock my iPhone 4 on iOS 5 with Gevey SIM card?
If you would like to proceed and unlock your iPhone 4 with a Gevey SIM card on the iOS 5 firmware without updating your iPhone 4′s base band in the process you can follow this youtube video on how to do so. This is a relatively simple thing to do and involves using RedSn0w. The only downside to this guide is that at this time only RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 can create a custom IPSW to preserve your iPhone 4′s base-band. The reason this is a downside is because RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 is only compatible with the Mac OS X operating system at this time. Meaning if you are a Windows user you will need to use Sn0wBreeze to preserve your iPhone 4′s base-band while updating to the iOS 5 firmware.
After following the how to guide video you can proceed to setting up your Gevey SIM card on the iOS 5 firmware.
In case you don’t how to setup your Gevey SIM card on the iPhone 4 you can watch this How-to video or..
Step 1 : Buy a Gevey Sim.
Step 2 : Remove any existing Sim Card from your device
Step 3 : Go to Settings > General > Network and turn off 3G and turn on Cellular Data and Data Roaming.
Step 4 : Turn off your iPhone 4 and insert your micro SIM card and the GEVEY Sim as shown in the image below.
Step 5 : Turn on your iPhone 4 and you should see a Welcome Screen like the one shown here. Accept it and go to Home Screen and start the steps
Step 6 : Now You will see No Service message. Ignore that and go to Phone Dialer.
Step 7 : Now wait for 15 seconds as the message said, and before the one signal bar appears. Immediately dial 112 and disconnect the call after 2-3 seconds .
Step 8 : Now go to Settings app and Turn on Airplane Mode. You will now see “No Sim Card Installed” message. Accept and turn on Airplane Mode.
Step 9 : You will now see Sim Failure message. Wait for few more seconds and your iPhone 4 will be unlocked and activated

Confirming that defiantly works with ios 5.0.1 baseband 04.11.08?
Hey Jimmy, i should have been more clear in my post and I’m sorry for that. I myself can confirm it working on iOS 5.0.1 with BB of 4.10.1 and not 4.11.08, however; ApplenBerry confirmed that a new Gevey SIM will unlock iPhone 4 baseband 04.11.08. but this with be done with a new Gevey Sim. “the Gevey Sim 2″ if you updated your BB, there is a way to down grade it so you can use the current Gevey Sim thats out to unlock your iPhone.
if there is any other question you have and i may answer, please don’t hesitiate to ask!
Sincerely,
Amadeus
Thank You. Is there any idea when the Gevey 2 will be released?
From my sources it is said that in late Feb it will be released.
