So below you will find the specifications and more of my personal media server.
I’ll get started with the specs:
Dell Precision T7400
Dual Xeon E5440′s overclocked to 3.2 Ghz (2.83 Ghz, unclocked)
8 GB’s of FB-DIMM RAM – Running really hot!
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 Video Card (OEM)
Intel RAID Controller R32WC040 – 35mm fan attached to heatsink
Dell SAS 6/iR RAID Controller
4 – 3 TB Hitachi HDD’s ran off the Intel controller (RAID 5)
2 – 1 TB Western Digital HDD’s ran off the Dell Controller (RAID 0)
1 – 1 TB Western Digital HDD ran off the mainboard
2 – Junk drives WD/Hitachi over 1 TB combined also running off the mainboard
This system is primarly used as my media server along with running several of my virtual machines. I use a Sony Playstation 3 along with PS3MediaServer to stream movies, music, and pitcures to a beautiful 60″ Sharp Aquos LCD. I love the ease of use and the ability to play any, if not all video formats with the simple click of a button.
I use VMWare Workstation 8 in order to maintain control of my virtual machines. So far I have set up the following to use all 8 cores and 4-6 GB of my available RAM.
Windows XP SP3
Windows 8 (Developer Version)
Mac OSX SnowLepoard 10.6.7
Mac OSX Lion 10.7.X
Linux Mint
Ubuntu 11.04
Chrome 0S 1.4.797
Also, I have setup FileZilla Server for my family and friends. I have also created my own SSL certificate so we dont have to worry about prying eyes…
I would like to thank my beautiful girlfriend for allowing me much needed alone time in order to get this baby built.
